Each flower on the sacred datura takes days to unfold to its full glory early one morning. By noon it is gone.

About

If there is a common thread that connects these photographs it is this: something caught my eye and I responded by pushing the shutter release. Usually some time elapsed between the noticing and the capturing—time to compose the image, find an angle, decide what to include and exclude. Push the button, look again, push the button, look again, repeat until it seems complete.

I’ve been photographing for forty years. Over that time the craft has gotten more automated. The camera does the work unless I tell it otherwise. But the art is same as it always was. For better or worse what happens inside the frame is up to me.

In these photographs I am calling attention to some part of the world. Some are small pieces, others are panoramas. All of them stirred some feeling in me. At their best they will also catch your eye and make you pause for a moment to savor the unexpected.
